Gudrun Weerasinghe's Gallery

From a review on German artist Gudrun Weerasinghe, in a magazine titled Velvet - 'It is important to her that the viewers of her pictures should not only use their brains, but all their feelings, to approach the intrinsic meaning of the picture.'
Since the original review of Ms. Weerasinghe's site in June 1999, it has evolved into a sleek new gallery.  Gone is the rotating cube applet, and a streamlined java script has replaced it.  You are presented with a choice of English or German, and led into the gallery proper.  When the site was re-designed in late 2000, there was initially a problem with the number of 'rooms' that appeared to be available for viewing.  I had only a 17-inch monitor at the time and it was set to a resolution of 800x600.  At that setting, I was only able to see five rooms in Early Works, when in fact there are seven.  Since then, the issue has been corrected by the addition of scroll bars within the frame.  In fact, the whole navigation of the site has improved dramatically, allowing you to concentrate on the content instead of how to get to it.

Ms Weerasinghe created the style as well as the term ArtHealing, a relatively new concept to North America.  The premise is that cheerful, warm colours, purposely allowed to run together and imbued with "metaphysical vibrations", elicit changes in the viewer's mood.  And it is in this section that you will find most of her work.  There are seventeen 'rooms' holding over 54 images.  Bright, vibrant colours splash across your screen as you peruse the modern art paintings done in oils, water colors, and acrylics.  Twenty images, created during the '80's and painted on artificial silk, are displayed in the seven rooms of the Early Works pages.  You will also find a puzzle in this section, although I've never been able to figure out exactly how to solve it.

Gudrun's art has been displayed throughout world, with gallery viewings in Europe, Canada, China, and the U.S.  Two of her most recent showings were right here in Canada, at The Festival Salon des Beaux Arts in Montreal and at Gallery Systeme in Toronto.
