Ms.
Crawford began her pursuit of the artist’s life in 1990 when an illness
forced her to change careers. Taking her inspiration from nature,
and influenced by literature and poetry, Lesley’s work is based upon what
she calls The Gaia Philosophy:
“... that the Earth
is a living, self-regulating system, where everything interlocks in a wondrous
harmony”. -- Lesley Crawford
Working primarily in watercolor,
acrylics, and coloured pencil, she has created some heart-warming portraits
of animals and people. But it is her graphite drawings of the animals
that are most eye-catching. As you can see by the image of the tiger
on this page, and as one of her clients noted, she ”must have drawn it
literally hair by hair to get so much detail”. Lesley’s paintings
and drawings are not restricted to living beings. Communion, All
Hallows, located in the gallery named Gaia’s Other Realm, captures
the burnished gleam of the communion plate and cup like no other watercolor
you’ve seen. This particular piece garnered the artist Best Amateur
in the National Open Competition sponsored by the Wellingborough Council.
Her web site has earned the coveted Best Of The Net designation by About.com
for not only the art, but also for the design of her pages.
Lesley Crawford is the founder
the UK
COLOURED PENCIL SOCIETY, editor of their newsletter,
"Talking Point", and a member of the Wildlife Art Society. In addition
to her art for sale and exhibit, Ms. Crawford also holds adult classes
in Northamptonshire, England, teaching drawing and painting.
