| Deanna Hancock’s site opens with a small version of a Bryce picture titled A Celebration of Spring. Simple, elegant, clean lines, easy to navigate, quick loading - a pleasure to travel through her pages. Design By Deanna used to be just one section of a much larger site, Hancock’s Place, which first went on-line in 1995. |
| Scattered
throughout the site, you will see what at first may appear to be some sort
of cryptic code, but is in fact, her email address: dhanco at cableone
dot net. Another victim of ever-increasing junk mail - just replace
the ‘at’ with the symbol @, and the ‘dot’ with a period, run it all together
and there you have it.
Design By Deanna is segmented into six areas - Gallery, Bryce, Paintings, Animations, Tubes, and Links. You could even include the Updates on the opening page as another distinct section. There are links within the revisions to earlier works that do not appear in the categories on the menu at the top of the page, such as the Panorama Tube Painting depicting a winter scene. It is an unusual effect in that you appear to be ‘standing’ in the middle of a circle, viewing a small town as you turn slowly to the right. If you’re at all prone to motion sickness, looking at this unique image long enough may make you feel a little dizzy! Gallery’ is a collection of eight photos and tube paintings, all utilizing the lake applet in different ways - some have overlays, others use varying speeds for the ripple effect. View the Ghost Ship shrouded in fog and you can almost feel the physical sensation of the mist silently curling around vessel. The last six pieces are set to music which will only autostart if you’re viewing with Internet Explorer. Using Netscape, you will need to right-click the little note above the image to hear the carefully selected compositions. Bryce' is composed of three galleries - Alaska, Surreal, and Main - as well as an index to individual works by date. Here, you will find the full size picture you saw when first entering the site. Inspired by a song written by Loreena McKennitt, A Celebration of Spring is a collaborative effort between Deanna and another Bryce artist, Gary Vennie. Taking over 2 weeks to complete, Deanna found it necessary to add an additional 256MB of RAM to her computer in order to render the image. No detail is overlooked in these works. Study Evening Games and you will even see shadows within the houses. Look at Tiger Lily - the stark contrast of the flower against a window reflected off an ebony table top - and you’ll see a faint likeness on the far left. View A Safe Habour in Gallery II (off the Main Gallery) and you can just make out the hint of a sailing ship in the distance. At the end of this section, you will find a large list of prime links to other Bryce artists, plus the Bryce 3D newsgroup, which you can add right from her page. Paintings’ holds Deanna’s tube paintings and a tutorial she has written to get you started on your own creative journey with Paint Shop Pro. ‘Animations’ has a small assortment of animated images for download. ‘Tubes’ has original crisp, clear images for you to create your own paintings. You’ll see trees, foliage, buildings, horses. fences, old-style wagons, and even some geese. Scroll down to the link ‘New Tubes’, and you’ll enter an area filled with pillars, columns, doors, entrance ways, and a group that she calls The Cellar which contains items such as scales, a cash register, and a treasure chest. Immediately below ‘New Tubes’, is a link to more images with a Hanukkah theme. In exchange for the use of the PSP tubes, she asks only that you email her so that she too may enjoy what you have created. ‘Links’ is where you want to visit if you’re looking for the resources used by Deanna to build her site. Recipient of the DIGITAL ARTWORKS AWARD and THE BRYCE FORUM GALLERY AWARD, Deanna has used Bryce 4, QS Flame (a fractal generator), Poser 4, Painter 6, Ulead PhotoImpact, and both Paint Shop Pro 5 and 6 to create her pictures. Make sure you have your browser java-enabled, then slip into the surreal world of Deanna Hancock by clicking on the silhouetted bird at the top of this page. <== BACK |
