the time October rolled around, I was starting to assist other people with
their graphics. |
October
21, 1999
My daughter, Krista, has
begun to build her own site. She doesn't yet have a graphics program,
although I'm trying to talk her into getting Paint Shop Pro. Until
she does, I'm going to help her with a few images so that she can get started.
She doesn't have any idea as to what she wants to do, but that will come
in time. This one was created for the opening page of her site, KRISTA'S
KORNER. |
I
made two opening images for her so that she would have something
to choose from. For whatever reason, she decided to stay with the
turquoise banner for her main page, but wanted some buttons in the blue
for her index page.
Her e-mail button -- made
the same way as my logo -- with the following images.
Only
this time, it didn't take 15 tries. Worked first time out.
Interesting -- each one of the individual images used ranged in size from
1.66 KB to 2.01 KB for a total of 11.10 KB. But the finished
button is only 6.1 KB. So don't be afraid to use several images to
create an animation - PSP will optimize the file size.

November 6, 1999 -- Krista
is setting up a Christmas Page. She's started a section called 'Special
Occasions' and these adorable little mice buttons were created for her,
using tubes from GLORIANON. |
November
13, 1999 -- Krista has joined a few web rings, and people are starting
to ask if she has a banner they can use to link to her pages. This
one was made using a linear gradient as follows:
match mode = RGB value
tolerance = 20
opacity = 100
blend mode = normal
direction = 0 degrees
with white selected as the
foreground color, and black selected as the background color. I applied
a motion blur to soften the gradient and the text 'Krista's Korner'
was added using the chisel effect to a size of 4 and set to transparent.
The '80s, Beanie Babies' text was added using the drop shadow effect.
Topped it off with the star tube, and buttonized. |
Another
banner for her, again using the linear gradient as above, but this time,
red instead of white for the foreground color. No effects added to
the text. Added 2 pixel borders, starting with first black, the red,
then black again, and red one more time. Buttonized the image using
a transparent border. |
November
18, 1999 -- Created out of the sheer frustration of trying to find something
to link to another site. The owner of the site (which is basically
all information) had no graphics with which to do so. As every other
link on my page had a corresponding banner, it just didn't look right having
only a text link in this one spot, yet I needed something very simple.
I opened a new file, 200 x 75 pixels and using the selection tool, marked
off the top half of the image. I applied the same linear gradient
as the two banners above, then de-selected the image. Marked off
the bottom half, applied the linear gradient to this section, but changed
the degrees to 180. To finish it off, a gausian blur to a radius
of 5 was added and the size reduced to 75% of the original. Black
text was added, using a drop shadow effect with white as the shadow and
a 2 pixel border in black completed the graphic. |
