| After
only one month, I've become quite comfortable with the program and am now
actually creating images that have some use. |
April
3, 1999 -- For the band's April Fool's Day page, I created this smaller
version of their logo. Not really different from the ones on the
previous page, but at least I got to work with a color other than red. |
One
morning I discovered the Web Site Garage, a place that analyzes your web
pages and lets you know how long it takes for them to load up over various
modems. The Guns 4 Hire site was taking over a minute to load their
index.
One of the recommendations made by the Web Site Garage was to re-size the
GIFs. This button is only 293 bytes and represents a 1000 byte savings
over the ones I first made back in March. Doesn't seem like much,
does it? But when you have 14 of those things on one page it can
really make a difference. By making them smaller, I saved 14 KB and
knocked 25% off the download time. (And it looks better, too.) |
Now
that I'm actually starting to make some of my own stuff, a friend of mine
suggested that I set up my own little company just in case. Just
in case of what, I'm not really sure, but I went ahead and started Masters
Digital Design. What's the first thing every company needs?
An identifying logo! |
Don't
know what I thought I was going to do with this backwards one, but here
it is anyway. |
Whoa
... I found the animation part of the Paint Shop Pro program !! Now
I can make all those goofy little things I see all over the web.
Seriously, I don't think I'll be using it much just yet. Takes too
much planning. But I did manage to create my first logo for Masters
Digital Design. These were the images that I used to put it together

...
and here's the finished product. |
| When
you're looking at different web sites, take a few minutes to view the graphics
that accompany the text. Some of them look so simple, but hours of
time went into their making. And just because it's small doesn't
necessarily mean it was any quicker to make. The smaller ones can
be some of the most difficult to create. |
