Another CD cover, more commercial
paper, and a new printer - a professional Hewlett-Packard with a duty cycle
of 5000 pages per month and triple the speed of my old one. What
happened here? I bought a computer and planned on getting my Microsoft
certification ... somewhere along the way I got hijacked into web development,
graphic design, and print work. Guess I'm going to have to re-organize
the commercial section of this site.
I awoke this morning to a
SPECTACULAR
IMAGE attached to an email. I have no
words to express the feelings that swept over me when I discovered that
it had come from Panda as a thank you gift for writing about her site.
What made this so special was that she had created it just for me - a 'one
of a kind'. It never ceases to amaze me how there are so many talented
artists out there who are genuinely surprised when someone takes an interest
in their work. Unfailingly, they go out of their way to express their
gratitude.
Panda's site, Pan Dolce Vita,
is the FEATURED
SITE FOR MAY. She is in the midst
of re-designing the English side of the site so make sure that you visit
the Dutch pages once you've become comfortable with her navigation.
The
index on the Dutch side is identical - you won't have any trouble getting
around - and you'll get a wonderful preview of what's coming for her English-speaking
viewers. I've even managed to pick up a couple of Dutch words in the process
... 'kunst' is Dutch for art, 'ik' is I, 'uitdaging' is challenge
(or is that challenging?) ... okay, it's not much, but it is a start! |

the bar by which a site is measured is raised. |

Vendors of antivirus software
post the latest alerts on their web sites daily. Locating each one
of those pages can sometimes be difficult, especially when you are right
in the middle of what you may believe to be an infection and you are searching
for information on whatever virus/trojan to which your software has issued
a warning. While I'm certain this is probably the last site you'll
be looking at when such an event occurs, bookmark the VIRUS
INFORMATION PAGE right now so that if and
when you require the information, you'll have it readily available. |

The FEATURED
SITE FOR JUNE is Design By Deanna, created
by Deanna Hancock. I had temporarily placed my own images on the
review page while waiting to hear from Ms. Hancock. Now that she has granted
permission for the use of her copyrighted work, I have removed mine.
I've tucked the one I created away under Tube Paintings in the Originals
section. |

In November of 2000, I applied
for an award at the Pegasus Art Gallery. As with most awards, if
you do not win, you don't hear back from the owner(s) of the site.
Makes sense ... given the volume of applications for some of the more prestigious
awards. Therefore, you can imagine my utter surprise (and delight!)
to find these TWO
AWARDS in my mailbox this morning. After
so long, I had forgotten that I had even applied for them, and had the
original application not been attached to the message, I would have been
wondering how they ever came to be sent to me. Thank you, June, for
taking the time to really look over these pages.
Since the beginning of June,
I've been tied almost exclusively to the Avon web site. I believe
- at the very least I hope - that it's finally under control. Vast
quantities of time were spent scanning and editing the images appearing
on the site. With that now finished, except for minor updates every
three weeks, it's time to turn my attention back to this site. |

What happened? I was
checking through the external links from my pages to sites such as Silver's
Place, with her 'Look But Don't Steal' effort, and Ellen Stafford's Diary
and Fantasy Realm's 'Search For The Fairies' ... gone ... all gone.
Even the Widow's Web 'Web Prestige Program' ... abandoned. It feels
sort of sad, in a way - like old friends have disappeared. These
were some of the first places I visited when I began to explore the Internet.
They were so open and eager to teach and assist newcomers. I guess
commercialism and competition entered this world, too. Or maybe they
encountered individuals who took advantage of the inherent anonymity of
the Internet to make things unpleasant for them. It's too bad that
we lost places like these. With all the problems in the world today,
it was wonderful to visit their pages and escape, for a little while, to
places where trust, ideals and principles were still held in high regard. |

The events of September
11, 2001 caught the whole world off guard. Reviews that were in progress
were eventually finished and posted, but as for the rest of the site
... that was the last thing on my mind for a very long time. |
