As my husband is a musician, we attend various industry functions throughout the year.  In 2005, the Juno's were hosted in Winnipeg.  At each one of the venues over the 3-day period, musicians and their guests received take-away bags of complimentary items - everything from books, to CD's, food samples, perfume, clothing, etc.  In one of the bags was a fragrance sample called Pink Sugar.  It's a relatively new, very sweet, delicate scent from SELECTIVA-SPA, imported from Italy, and I absolutely fell in love with it.  But it wasn't until today that I purchased my first bottle of the perfume.  And inside the packaging was the following poem that brought back memories of hopes and dreams from my past for which I still yearn.
I want a world that’s simpler, happier, more real:
a world where dreams and emotions are tinged with pink.

I want a world that’s enchanting, dynamic, and light:
a world where sweetness and joy bring a smile to my face.

I want things that are more tempting, softer, sweeter:
a world where fragrance and freshness excite my passion.

I want a world that’s more innocent, full of hope and fantasy:
a world where harmony and femininity are the essence of life.

    I want a world that’s sweeter.

I have an adorable sable-coloured hamster named Willow - or maybe I should re-state that as 'Willow has a human'. She has managed to train me quite well and HER STORY is the most recent addition the site.

This is just the funniest thing I've seen in a long time.  What happens when you combine 200 litres of Diet Coke-Mentos ExperimentDiet Coke and over 500 Mentos mints?   EepyBird.com conducted the experiment and set it to music.  I guess you could call it an art form, and this site, is after all, about exploring art on the internet.  It's quite a large file in QuickTime format - 12 Mb and it takes a while load.  Click the picture to the right to view the video in a separate window.  While this is a relatively new phenomenon sweeping the internet, the original experiment in nucleation was developed pre-1999 by Lee Marek for an appearance on Late Night with David Letterman, as evidenced by THIS QUERY.  And if your scientific curiosity is now peaked, visit the web site of LEE MAREK for a few more goodies.

While checking on the links from the reviews within the FEATURED SITES pages, I discovered that the web sites of William Latham and Steven Rooke are no longer on line.  Hopefully this is just a temporary situation, and the computer-generated art of these two talented individuals will be back shortly for all to enjoy.

Are WebRings dead?  Or at least, on the verge of dying?  As their name implies, WebRings form online communities, visibly linking sites with like interests … in a ring - no beginning and no end.  A path, easily followed, is created through the millions of sites on the internet, allowing visitors to experience a myriad of points of view and opinions and comments on any one topic or theme.  What a wonderful way to experience the many pages that would otherwise be missed because they linger, unnoticed, in the depths of a search engine's ranking.  But the rings only work if they remain unbroken, and it should take a very short time to either be accepted into a ring, or advised that your site does not meet the qualifications.  I have been waiting 4 months (since the beginning of May) to receive notification, one way of the other, from both the Computer Friends WebRing and The Pink Ladies WebRing, like many others, as the ever-growing number of prospective members stats would indicate.  At last count, there are 52 waiting for admission to the Pink Ladies ring, and 15 waiting for the Computer Friends ring.  Meanwhile, anyone clicking a link within the WebRing graphics on my pages is met with message:  “Sorry you are still on the (WebRings name) queue or your site doesn't belong to this ring !!!!!”  A check today of the home pages for the owners of both rings (COMPUTER FRIENDS  and PINK LADIES ) returned 404 errors on each - not a good sign.  So it is with a bit of sadness that I have today removed the code for both rings from my pages.  Are WebRings dead?  Maybe not, but at the very best, many are now broken beyond repair.

On March 21st, my sweet Willow passed away.  I had her cremated, as I have done with all the other hamsters.  Arrangements were completed by my veterinarian, with the actual cremation being done by Misty Gardens Pet Cemetery and Domestic Animal Cremation.  Her ashes now sit on a shelf in my office.  Or so I thought.  A heart wrenching story has been developing in Winnipeg over the past couple of weeks and many forums are rife with the outrage and anguish of pet owners from Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and North Dakota who have used the services of this crematorium.  An investigation has been launched by the Manitoba Consumers’ Bureau, but there are hundreds - maybe thousands - of pet owners, who sincerely want retribution for the disgusting manner in which our beloved animals have been treated.  The mental anguish and heartbreak of uncertainty these uncaring individuals have thrust upon us at a time when we are already grieving the loss of what we consider a family member is unconscionable.  And to now have to face the possibility that all we did to ensure the final dignity of our precious pets went for naught at the hands of an irresponsible, uncaring, pathetic excuse for a human being is more than anyone should have to endure.  The following are links to Canadian new service reports on the story along with a link to two forums holding discussions and updates on the topic.  Each link opens in a separate window.

A new little one makes her DEBUT.  Abbey captured my heart at first sight and her capricious antics endear her to me on a daily basis.

I discovered a new free utility - SECUNIA SOFTWARE INSPECTOR - and I can't say enough about it.  A definite "must do" for everyone.  It takes only a couple of minutes and the results will almost certainly be quite unexpected.
